Couple of rolls to warm up, as there were only a few of us here this morning. Started out with low intensity, and never did pick it up (though plenty of unintentional assertiveness in the first round, as it was a new white belt). Then drilled bump sweep to triangle. Andrew then had me & Travis start offering resistance in one form or another so our partner had to pick between bump sweep, triangle, kimura, or guillotine.

One final set of rounds, me & Travis, then Andrew & Travis, then me & Travis again while Ray worked with the new guy. These rounds were supposed to be competition level, as Travis is doing the US Grappling tournament on June 22 (so am I, but I think it’s his first tournament — or at least first points tournament — so this was for him), but that just doesn’t happen at 7am on a Monday.

  1. “Unintentional assertiveness”??????? 😉 Are you sure that’s a thing?

Lol, yep. Internal dialog went like this: “Just warming up, gonna turn — oh, he fell down. M’kay, gonna sit up into his guard and — oh, he moved his legs out of the way and now I’m in side control. So I’ll just slide to knee-on — oh, he put himself under mount.” And so on. Everything I thought about halfway doing, he gift-wrapped the other half. I was completely amused.

  2. I submit that you have to have *intent* for it to qualify as assertiveness. Accepting gifts that white belts hand to you doesn’t count. 😉
