The Wedding

on September 5, 2010

My sister got married last night. It took months of planning & headaches (and a lot of yelling & screaming, truth be told), but everything came off beautifully. The weather cooperated, the bugs stayed mostly away, the kids behaved, there was plenty of food, and everyone had a very good time.

The wedding was held at The Inn at Hans Meadow, a bed and breakfast around the corner from where we used to live. People used to knock on our door all the time and ask if it was The Inn, because they’d miss the driveway for the B&B and our house looked big enough to be one.

So many things in the wedding were homemade. Michelle made the bouquets for all three of us. Our mom made Michelle’s wedding dress, and it was gorgeous — off-white, off the shoulder, lace trim everywhere, gathered chiffon overlay, a long row of buttons in the back. Mom also made the two bridesmaids’ dresses and her own dress; she made the corsages and boutonnières, and she made the groom’s cake for the rehearsal dinner. Our Aunt Kris made the wedding cake, and it was beautiful and delicious — almost everyone had a second piece! (Thankfully, she’d made a couple of sheet cakes to go along with the main cake.)

There was a jazz band at the reception, and they were phenomenally good. During one of their breaks, someone hooked up an iPod, and the Zorba the Greek song came on. Dancing time! Part of my family is Greek, so there must always be Greek dancing at the wedding.

Our Uncle Terry and his daughter, our cousin Conner, brought their cameras and took pictures throughout; together they took over 500 pictures! There was a also a professional photographer and her assistant who took many more even than that.
